Eagles Officially Release Veteran CB, 1-Game Starter Ahead of Cutdown Day
Philadelphia’s roster decisions continued to shake up the preseason picture as the team made a surprising move involving one of their young defensive backs.
Despite entering camp with high expectations, the cornerback failed to secure his role in the crowded secondary and is now being shifted off the 53-man roster.

The decision follows a training camp where the defensive back struggled to stand out. Once thought to be a candidate for CB2, he slipped on the depth chart and eventually battled nagging injuries that limited his availability. He did not appear in the preseason clash against the New York Jets, further raising questions about his immediate future.
Philadelphia’s coaching staff stressed the importance of special teams contributions and consistent reps, but the player couldn’t quite put together a convincing case. Still, the organization values his upside and has chosen not to release him outright. Instead, the front office is giving him another opportunity by designating him for the practice squad.
After much speculation, the player in question was revealed to be Kelee Ringo, the third-year cornerback who entered the NFL with promise but has struggled to carve out a permanent role in Philadelphia’s secondary.
Ringo, once a fan favorite for his speed and physicality, will now work to rebuild confidence and refine his technique on the practice squad. His special teams ability remains an asset, and the Eagles hope that extra time developing outside of the active 53-man roster will prepare him for future opportunities.
General manager Howie Roseman has not ruled out the possibility of a trade down the line, but for now, the move signals that Philadelphia is focused on depth and immediate performance as they push into the regular season.
