Giants Interim Head Coach Mike Kafka Admits After Loss: “We Had No Answer for the Packers’ WR”
East Rutherford, NJ In his first game as the interim head coach of the New York Giants, Mike Kafka endured a tough debut as his team blew an early lead and fell to the Green Bay Packers 27–20 at MetLife Stadium. The Giants started strong, leading through most of the first half, but momentum slowly shifted, and by the final whistle, the Packers had stormed back to secure the win. It was the Giants’ ninth loss of the season, deepening their woes in the NFC standings. The turning point of the game? Christian Watson, the Packers’ explosive wide receiver, who caught two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory. Jordan Love (14) to Christian Watson (1)Green Bay Packers17 yardspic.twitter.com/xtMnvombFy — NFL Touchdown Videos (@NFLTDsVideos) November 16, 2025 Speaking to the media after the game, Kafka looked visibly frustrated, especially when asked about Watson’s impact. “We tried different coverages, rotated guys, even gave him double attention at times… and we still couldn’t stop him. He was too fast, too sharp, and the Packers made sure to capitalize. Honestly, we had no answer for Watson late in the game.” 📉 A rough debut for Kafka This was Mike Kafka’s first appearance as head coach after Brian Daboll was fired on November 10, 2025 due to the team’s poor 2–8 start. Although the Giants showed some early promise, they collapsed in the second half — particularly on defense, where they couldn’t contain the Packers’ passing attack. Christian Watson, while not officially named MVP of the game, was widely recognized by analysts and fans alike as the unofficial standout, constantly shredding the Giants’ secondary and making plays when it mattered most. Analyst reaction: If Mike Kafka cannot spark a turnaround soon, it will be hard for the Giants’ front office to justify giving him the long-term reins. Then again, with the way Christian Watson played, even a seasoned coach might have struggled.
