“They Forgot Me, But I Never Forgot Them” – Former Panthers Player Shares His Journey of Redemption After Years of Being Forgotten

Charlotte, North Carolina – November 8, 2025

A single sentence that made the entire Carolina Panthers community fall silent.

“They forgot me, but I never forgot them.”

Former defensive end Marcus Haynes, who played for the Panthers between 2019 and 2022, has opened up about his life after football – a story of loneliness, loss, and ultimately, gratitude for the team that once felt like his second family.

NFL Week 9 | Waiver Wire Stash or Pass: Kendrick Bourne + Chuba Hubbard

💔 From the Bright Lights to the Days No One Remembered His Name

Marcus Haynes was once one of the Panthers’ most promising young defenders. Known for his speed, power, and “Keep Pounding” mentality, he seemed destined for a long NFL career. But like many football dreams, his journey was cut short after a devastating knee injury in 2022.

When his contract expired, the calls stopped coming. Overnight, he went from being featured on ESPN to being forgotten.

“One day, you hear thousands of people screaming your name. The next, your phone doesn’t ring anymore,” Haynes said through tears.
“I didn’t know who I was outside of football. And when that was gone, I lost myself too.”

🌧 Life After the NFL – The Fall That Almost Broke Him

Without a job or a spotlight, Marcus took on whatever work he could find — from delivery driving to teaching P.E. at a local high school. He admitted that he struggled with severe depression, staying off social media and avoiding Panthers games altogether.

“I didn’t hate the team. I was just hurt. Every time I saw them play, I remembered how it felt to be there… and I cried.”

💪 Finding Redemption – and Gratitude for His Former Team

Everything changed when he received a call from a former Panthers coach inviting him to speak with rookies during the team’s “Panthers Mentorship Week.”
It was the first time in three years that Marcus had stepped back into the Panthers’ facility in Charlotte.

“I looked at that blue panther logo on the wall, and I realized… I had never really left.”

After that moment, Haynes began volunteering with the team’s community programs, coaching kids and spreading the “Keep Pounding” spirit he once lived by.

“I used to think they forgot about me, but maybe I was the one who forgot why I loved this game in the first place.”

🕊 A Message That Touched the Heart of Every Panthers Fan

In a video posted to his personal page, Marcus ended with a sentence that brought thousands of fans to tears:

“They forgot me, but I never forgot them. Carolina will always be home.”

The clip quickly went viral across X (Twitter) and Facebook, gaining tens of thousands of shares.
The Panthers Nation fan page wrote:

“You can leave Carolina, but the Panther heart never leaves you.”

Buffalo Bills Just Signed a Top-Remaining Free Agent CB to Save Their Secondary
The Buffalo Bills secondary has been pure chaos lately: Darius Slay refused to report, Ja’Marcus Ingram got poached by the Texans, and suddenly the depth chart looked thinner than ever. But GM Brandon Beane just pulled off a sneaky-smart move that flew completely under the radar… Late Tuesday afternoon, the Bills quietly signed one of the highest-rated cornerbacks still left on the open market to the practice squad — a 25-year-old former seventh-round pick with elite 4.45 speed and perfect slot-corner size (5’11”, 190 lbs). So… who is this mystery reinforcement? (Keep scrolling, we’ll reveal the name in a second) His 2025 journey has been a wild rollercoaster: Cut for good by the Las Vegas Raiders in April after bouncing on/off their practice squad all of 2024 Signed by Carolina in the summer → waived/injured → landed on IR Joined Baltimore in early August → survived most of camp but got released on final cutdown day (Aug 26) And now he’s officially belongs to the Buffalo Bills. Drumroll… the newest member of Bills Mafia is M.J. Devonshire — a name that, believe it or not, was still ranked inside the Top 30 available cornerback free agents this fall according to PFF, Bleacher Report, and multiple NFL insiders. Right now Buffalo’s active 53-man roster only has THREE true outside cornerbacks: Christian Benford Tre’Davious White Rookie Maxwell Hairston With a brutal late-season schedule and injuries always one snap away, bringing in a young, fast, draft-pedigree CB who can play both outside and in the slot is a no-brainer depth move. Is M.J. Devonshire the hidden gem who finally stabilizes the Bills’ secondary… or just another practice-squad body? One thing’s for sure: Bills Mafia just got a little faster. What do you think — underrated pickup or just depth filler? Drop your take in the comments! 🔥
