“The Silent Machine” of Kansas City Nears Historic Milestone
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – From his vantage point, Chiefs passing game coordinator Joe Bleymaier has witnessed Travis Kelce’s evolution first-hand this season. Though he doesn’t coach the tight end directly, Bleymaier sees how Kelce’s relentless work ethic fuels not only his own growth but the entire locker room.
“He finds a way to get better in-season,” Bleymaier said Thursday. “While some veterans go into self-preservation mode around October, Trav keeps pushing himself every single day. That’s what’s kept him elite.”
As the Chiefs (3-3) prepare to host the Raiders (2-4) on Sunday (12 p.m. CT, CBS/KCTV, Channel 5, 96.5 The Fan), Kelce stands one touchdown away from No. 100 in his career, including playoffs — a feat only three tight ends in NFL history have ever achieved: Antonio Gates (118), Tony Gonzalez (115), and Rob Gronkowski (107).
Patrick Mahomes enters Week 7 red-hot, coming off a four-touchdown performance and becoming the fastest player ever to reach 300 career passing TDs. Against the Raiders, he boasts 4,141 passing yards and 35 total TDs in 14 starts.
On the Raiders’ side, quarterback Geno Smith looks to steady an offense powered by breakout rookie Ashton Jeanty, who leads all rookies with 497 scrimmage yards. Defensive end Maxx Crosby, meanwhile, continues to terrorize opponents with a league-leading 10 tackles for loss and a sack streak at Arrowhead.
But all eyes will be on Travis Kelce — Kansas City’s “silent machine” — as he chases a milestone that could etch his name alongside the greatest to ever play the game.
