Philadelphia Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie, via his Chestnut Hill Productions, has enlisted Hollywood icon and lifelong Eagles fan Sylvester Stallone to headline a 26-minute documentary celebrating the “Tush Push,” sources confirmed to ESPN. Stallone, a passionate supporter since the 1960s, was chosen for his deep ties to Philadelphia and his embodiment of the city’s underdog spirit, making him ideal for a film spotlighting the polarizing play Lurie staunchly defended at the NFL owners’ meeting.
Lurie’s fervor for the “Tush Push” shone through during the May 21 meeting in Minnesota, where he delivered a 60-minute speech to block a proposed ban, dismissing critics’ arguments as a “wet dream” for opponents. His remarks sparked tension with NFL executive Troy Vincent, but the ban failed with a 22-10 vote, securing the play’s place in the 2025 season.
Chestnut Hill Productions, acclaimed for Oscar-winning documentaries like Summer of Soul, will produce the film, delving into the “Tush Push’s” history and influence. “Sylvester captures the grit we pour into the ‘Tush Push,’” Lurie stated at a press conference. Set for release on September 1, ahead of the Eagles’ season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, the documentary will feature Stallone narrating the play’s journey, from its inception to its critical role in the Super Bowl LIX victory.
The film will include archival footage, showcasing moments like Jason Kelce’s execution and the play’s 86% success rate, according to NFL data. Lurie’s push for the documentary stems from frustration with teams like the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers, who advocated for the ban. Sources indicate Lurie clashed with 49ers owner Jed York over his impassioned defense, while NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell may reconsider the ban in 2026.
Stallone, synonymous with Philadelphia through his Rocky franchise, brings a symbolic resonance. “I’m honored to tell this story—it’s Philly’s heart on display,” he said in a statement. The documentary will also address the play’s safety concerns, refuting claims of elevated injury risks.
