Stephen Jones praises Dallas Cowboys' latest breakout young star
Stephen Jones is absolutely thrilled with the emergence of second-year wide receiver Ryan Flournoy, the latest breakout star for the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaking on 105.3 The Fan on Monday, the Cowboys’ Executive Vice President didn’t hold back his praise for the former sixth-round pick:
“He’s obviously a long, physical player. He made his mark starting on special teams and played really well there. Now he’s getting the job done on offense too. We’ve always liked him — he was making plays in training camp, especially in the red zone. Now he’s clearly developing into a really solid NFL receiver.”
Flournoy Steps Up When It Matters Most
The young receiver delivered his best professional performance yet in Week 14 against the Detroit Lions, posting:
- 9 receptions
- 115 receiving yards
- 1 touchdown

It marked the second 100-yard game of his young career (previously 114 yards in Week 6 vs. Carolina). Through 14 weeks, Flournoy now has: 29 catches · 349 yards - 3 touchdowns
Both of his 100-yard outings came when superstar CeeDee Lamb was either sidelined or forced out early due to injury (ankle sprain earlier, concussion vs. Detroit). With George Pickens and Lamb commanding most of the defensive attention, Flournoyrnoy has quietly become a highly reliable WR3 — and sometimes WR1 — in one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses.
From Pick No. 216 to Legit NFL Weapon
Flournoy’s road to the league was anything but conventional. He played at three different colleges (Yale, Central Missouri, Southeast Missouri State) before hearing his name called at pick 216 in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Just 20 months later, the late-round gem has gone from special teams contributor to a key piece of the Cowboys’ passing attack.
Final Thoughts
With elite size, outstanding contested-catch ability, and growing confidence, Dallas, another late-round wide receiver hit looks like they’ve struck gold once again. If Flournoy keeps progressing at this rate, the Cowboys could soon boast one of the scariest receiver trios in football: CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and the rising Ryan Flournoy.
Cowboys Nation has every reason to be excited about the future at wideout — even when Lamb needs a game (or a few plays) off.
