Steelers Training Camp Hit by Early Setback as 10-Year Veteran Goes Down with Serious Injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers opened training camp with high hopes — but those expectations quickly took a hit as veteran offensive lineman Isaac Seumalo was sidelined due to injury.
Seumalo, entering his 10th NFL season and third with the Steelers, has been a critical piece of the offensive line’s interior. According to reports, he suffered a lower-body injury during the first set of team drills and has since been held out of practice. While the team hasn’t disclosed the exact nature of the issue, the tone surrounding the injury has raised concerns inside the building.
“We’re monitoring it closely,” said head coach Mike Tomlin.
“He’s an important part of what we do up front, and we’re hopeful this doesn’t linger into September.”
With Seumalo out, the Steelers have begun rotating multiple young linemen into his spot — including third-year guard Kendrick Green and rookie options. But the gap in experience and communication has already shown during early scrimmages.
Seumalo is one of the few stabilizing presences on an offensive line that saw significant turnover this offseason. His absence, even temporary, could challenge the cohesion needed to protect new quarterback Aaron Rodgers and help spark the run game behind Jaylen Warren.
The timing is particularly frustrating. Training camp is when timing, chemistry, and execution are built — and missing a seasoned veteran at left guard could put Pittsburgh’s offense on its back foot heading into Week 1.
As Steelers fans hold their breath, all eyes now turn to Tomlin’s staff — and whether they’ll need to make an early move to reinforce the offensive line before September arrives.
