Steelers Sign New WR, Cut Another After Skipping Practice for a Week
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers made a roster adjustment this week, shaking up their practice squad after a string of absences from wide receiver Lance McCutcheon forced the team’s hand.
McCutcheon, who was already on the bubble, reportedly missed multiple practices and team activities, leading coaches to release him from the squad. His lack of availability became too costly for a team that prides itself on accountability.

To fill the spot, Pittsburgh turned to a fresh face with upside. The Steelers signed a young wideout with NFL experience who spent the last two seasons in Tampa Bay, originally joining the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2023.
The new addition has played in 20 career games, starting two, with 13 receptions for 184 yards and a 14.2-yard average. In 2024, he logged nine catches for 124 yards, averaging 13.8 yards per reception. Before that, he starred at Maryland, posting 119 catches, 1,552 yards, and 10 touchdowns in college.

That receiver is Rakim Jarrett — a dynamic athlete with the versatility to fit Pittsburgh’s evolving offense.
For the Steelers, it’s a low-risk, high-reward move. Jarrett brings speed and production to the practice squad, while the departure of McCutcheon sends a clear message: attendance and effort matter in Pittsburgh.
