Steelers Sign Eagles Veteran OL and Two Players to Bolster Team Depth

The Pittsburgh Steelers are retooling their roster following back-to-back losses, announcing the additions of offensive lineman Jack Driscoll, safety Darrick Forrest, and wide receiver John Rhys Plumlee to the practice squad on Tuesday.

Driscoll, a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, brings five seasons of NFL experience to Pittsburgh. He appeared in 67 games and made 18 starts with the Eagles, proving himself as a versatile blocker capable of playing both tackle and guard. A former standout at Auburn University, Driscoll also spent two seasons at Massachusetts before transferring, starting a combined 47 college games.

Forrest, originally drafted by the Washington Commanders in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft (163rd overall), offers valuable experience in the secondary. Over four seasons in Washington, he appeared in 40 games with 17 starts, recording 126 total tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles. Forrest also contributed on special teams and briefly spent time with the Indianapolis Colts earlier this year. Before the NFL, he starred at the University of Cincinnati, where he tallied 165 tackles and four and a half tackles for loss.

Forgotten Commanders star given chance to resurrect career with AFC challenger

Meanwhile, Plumlee reunites with the Steelers after initially signing as an undrafted free agent in 2024. The former UCF quarterback and wide receiver spent time with both the Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars before returning to Pittsburgh. Across his college career, Plumlee played in 52 games, throwing for 5,838 yards and 34 touchdowns, while adding 296 receiving yards as a hybrid playmaker.

To make room for the new additions, the Steelers released running back Raheem Blackshear and linebacker Jacoby Windmon from the practice squad.

Pittsburgh’s moves reflect a continued emphasis on depth and flexibility as they aim to rebound in the second half of the season.

Eagles Team Physician Confirms Saquon Barkley’s Injury Status After Leaving Game vs. Giants
Saquon Barkley’s last run against the New York Giants was vintage Barkley — a powerful 28-yard burst that left defenders grasping at air. But as he pulled up near the sideline and limped off the field, silence fell over the Eagles’ sideline. The superstar running back was clearly in discomfort, and fans feared the worst. Fortunately for Philadelphia, those fears have eased. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, and later confirmed by the Eagles Team Physician, Barkley’s injury has been diagnosed as a minor groin issue, and he’s expected to recover fully during the bye week. “Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is trending positively coming off a minor groin injury,” Fowler reported. “The feeling right now is that he should be in a good spot after the bye week.” That’s a huge relief for the Eagles, especially since Barkley was in the middle of his best performance of the season before leaving the game. He exploded for 150 rushing yards on 14 carries, including a 65-yard touchdown run on the team’s second drive, and added four receptions for 24 yards. Philadelphia didn’t need him to finish the game — the team was already comfortably ahead — but Barkley’s impact was undeniable. His blend of speed and power had the Giants’ defense on its heels all afternoon, a reminder of why the Eagles made such a bold move to bring him to Philadelphia in the first place. The timing of the injury, however, couldn’t have been better. With the Eagles entering their bye week, Barkley now has two full weeks to rest before the team faces the Green Bay Packers in Week 10. While this season hasn’t yet matched his 2,000-yard campaign from a year ago, Sunday’s breakout showed flashes of the same dominance. If his recovery goes as expected, Barkley could be primed to lead the Eagles’ offense through a strong second half — just in time for another playoff push.
