The Pittsburgh Steelers have made another roster adjustment as they approach final cutdown day, parting ways with a seasoned wide receiver who had only recently joined the team during training camp. The move raised eyebrows among fans, many of whom were intrigued by the veteran’s presence as a potential depth piece.
Reports confirmed that the release was not due to locker room issues but simply a reflection of the Steelers’ ongoing efforts to refine their 53-man roster. While the door for a possible return remains slightly ajar, the organization chose to move forward with younger options at wideout.
The decision leaves questions about how the Steelers will balance experience and youth in their receiver corps heading into the 2025 season. Depth concerns had been highlighted during preseason, but Pittsburgh’s coaching staff has made it clear they are committed to developing their younger talent.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the move was finalized earlier this week, though the player has already expressed his determination to keep playing. He is expected to pursue opportunities elsewhere if Pittsburgh does not circle back in the near future.
That veteran receiver is Robert Woods, who had been with the Steelers for only a brief stint after previous seasons with the Rams, Titans, and Texans. Woods, who won a Super Bowl in Los Angeles and logged over 6,000 career receiving yards, still plans to suit up in 2025.
The 11-year veteran brought leadership and experience to the Steelers’ summer workouts, but ultimately his tenure was cut short before the regular season began. Whether his journey continues in Pittsburgh or another NFL city, Woods has made it clear his career is not over yet.
