Steelers President Art Rooney II Announces $30 Million Renovation Plan for Acrisure Stadium After Years of Deterioration
The home of the Pittsburgh Steelers is about to undergo a major transformation.
Steelers President Art Rooney II, together with the Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County (SEA), has officially approved a $30 million renovation and improvement plan for Acrisure Stadium, set to take place between now and 2027.

The announcement comes after mounting criticism over the stadium’s aging infrastructure and declining field quality. In recent seasons, both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers, who share the venue, have struggled with poor field conditions — an issue that has drawn attention from players, coaches, and even opposing teams.
Sources close to the organization revealed that the plan will focus heavily on three key areas:
-
Complete field resurfacing and drainage system overhaul, addressing recurring issues with uneven turf and mud buildup.
Structural repairs and seating upgrades, ensuring fan comfort and long-term safety compliance.
Modernization of locker rooms and player facilities, aimed at matching the standards of newer NFL stadiums.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Rooney emphasized that the renovations are not just cosmetic — they’re essential to maintaining the stadium’s reputation as one of the NFL’s premier venues.
“Acrisure Stadium has been home to incredible memories for both the Steelers and Pitt. But it’s time we invest in its future. This renovation is about ensuring our players have a safe, high-quality surface to compete on — and that our fans continue to experience football in a world-class environment,” Rooney said.
The project, co-funded by SEA and the Steelers organization, will begin preliminary work later this year, with most of the construction scheduled to take place during the 2026 and 2027 offseasons to avoid interfering with the NFL and NCAA schedules.
Fans have largely welcomed the news, especially following recent complaints about the field’s poor condition during games. After years of wear and tear, Acrisure Stadium is finally getting the upgrade both teams — and the city of Pittsburgh — have long deserved.
