Steelers in Talks With All-Pro Safety to Replace Miles Killebrew After Knee Injury
The Pittsburgh Steelers are moving quickly to address their depth at safety after losing All-Pro special teams captain Miles Killebrew to a knee injury in Sunday’s victory over the Cleveland Browns. On Tuesday, the team hosted former All-Pro and veteran safety for a visit at their facility, per team sources.
He was released by the San Francisco 49ers in June after undergoing offseason elbow surgery but has reportedly made a full recovery. His visit comes at a time when the Steelers are bracing to be without Killebrew for an extended stretch — potentially the rest of the season — as the team looks to stabilize one of its most important special teams units.

Over his career, George Odum has built a strong reputation as one of the league’s premier special teamers. He earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2020 and second-team recognition in 2022 while splitting time between the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers. Across six NFL seasons, Odum has totaled more than 200 tackles, three interceptions, and four forced fumbles.
Speaking to reporters after the workout, Odum expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet with Pittsburgh, saying:
“I didn’t come to Pittsburgh to fill someone’s shoes. I came here to fight — to fight for every inch, for the standard this team lives by. The Steelers don’t need replacements; they need warriors who’ll bleed for the black and gold. That’s who I am. That’s why I’m here.”
Odum was in the final year of a three-year deal with San Francisco before his release, and Pittsburgh could provide the perfect landing spot for the veteran. With Killebrew sidelined indefinitely, his leadership and versatility could prove invaluable for the Steelers as they prepare for a challenging stretch of the season.
