Steelers Finalize Practice Squad, Add Developmental Lineman With Intriguing Traits
The Pittsburgh Steelers have filled the final open spot on their 2025 practice squad, bringing the group to 17 players just days after the 53-man roster deadline. For a team that values depth and continuity, the move underscores Pittsburgh’s emphasis on developing familiar faces.
After trimming down to the league-mandated 53, the front office wasted no time targeting players they wanted back. Within 48 hours, 16 of the 17 practice squad slots had been filled, leaving one last space reserved for a player the coaching staff hoped to retain.

That final spot went to a rookie offensive lineman who had already spent the summer in training camp with the team. While his first stint ended with a release at roster cutdown, the organization was determined to bring him back after he cleared waivers.
At 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, he boasts the physical profile teams covet. Once a tight end in college, he transitioned to offensive line and has steadily adapted to the position. Coaches view him as a raw but promising piece who could grow into a bigger role with the right development.
This young lineman’s debut came in the preseason opener against Jacksonville, though a lower-body injury kept him sidelined for the final two contests. Even with limited reps, his size and potential were enough to earn another opportunity.
That player is Aiden Williams, now officially re-signed to Pittsburgh’s practice squad. His addition gives the Steelers three offensive linemen on the PS, joining Dylan Cook and Steven Jones as depth options behind the main roster.
“I know I still have a lot to prove. Getting another shot here means everything. All I can do is put my head down, work, and show that I belong.” – Aiden Williams
With Williams back, the Steelers now have 12 offensive linemen under contract across the active roster and practice squad. While his role for now is developmental, injuries or performance struggles up front could open the door for elevation to the 53-man roster.
Interestingly, every single member of the practice squad has ties to training camp with Pittsburgh. Unlike most years, when outside additions fill several spots, the Steelers stuck with players they know best—a clear sign of confidence in the group’s potential.
For Aiden Williams, the journey is just beginning. But for Pittsburgh, securing him on the practice squad is another step toward building the depth they’ll need for the grind of the 2025 season.
