The Pittsburgh Steelers opened their season with pure drama, pulling off a thrilling 34-32 victory over the New York Jets thanks to a booming 60-yard field goal from veteran kicker Chris Boswell. (VIDEO BELOW)
With just over a minute left on the clock, Boswell stepped up and drilled the kick, electrifying the Steelers sideline and leaving Jets fans stunned. The ball had plenty of distance, and the roar inside MetLife Stadium made it clear — Boswell’s leg had just sealed Week 1 for Pittsburgh.
“I just trusted my swing and blocked out everything else,” Boswell said postgame. “Moments like that are why I do this. When the team needs me most, I want to be the guy they can count on.”
But the Steelers weren’t done yet. The defense had to close the door, and newly signed cornerback Jalen Ramsey delivered. On fourth down, Ramsey broke up a pass intended for Jets receiver Garrett Wilson, officially ending the contest and securing the black-and-gold’s first win of the year.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, making his return to the Steelers after two years away, threw for 244 yards and four touchdowns, rekindling instant chemistry with wideout DK Metcalf, who hauled in four catches for 83 yards. Despite being sacked four times, Rodgers and the offense kept answering the Jets’ punches.
The Jets, led by former Steelers QB Justin Fields, put up a fight with 218 passing yards and a touchdown. Their run game also gashed Pittsburgh for 182 yards, proving that Mike Tomlin’s defense has adjustments to make heading into Week 2.
Still, the spotlight belonged to Boswell. His clutch leg lifted the Steelers to a 1-0 start, with the Seahawks next on the schedule. Steelers Nation will be buzzing all week about a kick that could go down as one of the defining moments of the season.
