Steelers’ DeShon Elliott Blasts NFL After Fine for Black Towel, Calls Out League With Explosive Message

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 4 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin was historic for the franchise and the league. It marked the NFL’s first regular season game in Ireland, played in front of a raucous crowd at Croke Park. Fans waving Terrible Towels filled the stadium, and Pittsburgh delivered a 24-21 victory to move to 3-1 on the season.

But even as the NFL celebrated the success of its Dublin debut, controversy quickly followed. Steelers safety DeShon Elliott took to social media to blast the league after receiving a fine for an equipment violation.

Elliott revealed on his Instagram account that he had been fined $5,797 for wearing an “unapproved black towel” during the game. According to the NFL, towels must be plain white, a rule designed to prevent players from hiding substances or disguising equipment. The fine, while oddly specific in amount, infuriated Elliott, who felt the league was focusing on the wrong issues.

Elliott posted the fine notice on his story and added a scathing caption directed at the NFL and the NFL Players Association:

“Count your f**** days,” Elliott said. “Y’all worried about the wrong things. Let’s fix things that actually mean something. @NFL @NFLPA.”

The comment quickly went viral, drawing attention not only to the league’s enforcement of minor equipment rules but also to the tension between players and NFL officials over priorities. Elliott has a history of speaking his mind, and while that honesty has sometimes gotten him into trouble, his message resonated with many fans who see equipment fines as excessive.

In fairness, the NFL argues that such rules exist for safety and fairness. A black towel could theoretically conceal substances or markings, whereas the mandated white towel makes it easy to spot anything unusual. Elliott has never been accused of cheating, but the league enforces the rule across the board, regardless of intent.

The Steelers are no strangers to controversial fines. In past years, defensive tackle Cameron Heyward was fined multiple times for eye black that said “Iron Head” in tribute to his late father, while running back DeAngelo Williams was fined for writing “Find the Cure” to honor his mother who passed away from breast cancer. Former corner William Gay was fined for wearing purple cleats to raise awareness for domestic violence.

Elliott now joins that list of Steelers penalized for rules that many feel miss the bigger picture. And with his “count your days” comment potentially viewed as a threat, the veteran safety could face additional discipline.

For now, Elliott’s focus will shift to recovery and preparing for the next stretch of the season. But with the NFL spotlight now squarely on him, his every move – and every towel – will be under a microscope for the rest of the year.

Josh Allen Named AFC Offensive Player of the Week After Insane Week 14 Comeback vs Bengals
For the THIRD time in 2025 and the 18th time in his legendary career, Josh Allen has been crowned AFC Offensive Player of the Week – putting him just behind Tom Brady for the most all-time. What he did to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday wasn’t football… it was a superhero movie. Stats that don’t even sound real: 22/28 (78.6%) – 251 passing yards – 3 passing TDs 9 carries – 78 rushing yards – 1 rushing TD (including a 40-yard sprint for the ages) → 4 total TDs, zero turnovers, and a perfect passer rating in the 4th quarter. The Moments That Broke the Internet Down 11 in the 2nd quarter, 4th-and-4 from the 11-yard line Josh Allen escapes pressure, rolls left, and throws an absolute DIME across his body to Khalil Shakir backing into the end zone. Then hits Dawson Knox for the 2-point conversion. Sean McDermott’s one-word reaction on Monday? “Audacity.” Bengals just took a two-possession lead in the 4th Allen needs only 1:11 to march 75 yards and scores himself on a 40-yard touchdown run – the longest rushing TD by a Bill in regular-season history. Game on the line, 3rd-and-15 with 1:54 left Instead of punting, Josh scrambles for the first down, takes a knee twice, and ends the game. Ballgame. History Made (Again) 11th career game with 3+ passing TDs + 1+ rushing TD → most in NFL history (only player with 10+) First player ever with 20+ pass TDs & 10+ rush TDs in three separate seasons First player ever with multiple games of 250+ pass yds, 75+ rush yds, 3+ pass TDs, 1+ rush TD 50th career game with at least 1 passing + 1 rushing TD → extends his own NFL record Josh Allen didn’t just beat the Bengals – he reminded the entire league why he’s the 2025 MVP front-runner. Bills Mafia, is this the best single-game performance of Josh’s career? Sound off in the comments!
