The Pittsburgh Steelers' full depth chart has been leaked just days ahead of training camp, providing fans with a revealing look at the team’s starting lineup - and it confirms what many had hoped: T.J. Watt is still penciled in as a starter.
Despite swirling contract drama and speculation about a potential holdout, Watt appears firmly in place at the weakside linebacker (WLB) slot. The sight of his name among the first-team defense is a welcome one, especially as reports continue to suggest that negotiations for a massive extension are ongoing behind the scenes.
On offense, Aaron Rodgers leads the way at quarterback, backed up by Mason Rudolph. Jaylen Warren is the starting running back, with Kaleb Johnson in support. At wide receiver, the trio of DK Metcalf, Calvin Austin III, and Robert Woods makes up the starting 3WR set, giving Rodgers one of the more balanced groups he’s had in recent years.
Meanwhile, on defense, Pittsburgh looks stacked - at least on paper. Cameron Heyward and Derrick Harmon return on the line, joined by second-year nose tackle Keeanu Benton. The linebacker corps is arguably the strongest unit, featuring T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Patrick Queen, and rookie standout Payton Wilson.
In the secondary, Jalen Ramsey holds the nickelback spot, while Joey Porter Jr., Darius Slay, and safeties DeShon Elliott and Juan Thornhill round out a veteran-heavy group with elite potential.
But beyond the headline-grabbing starters, the depth also reveals strategic positioning. Jonnu Smith sits behind Pat Freiermuth at tight end. Roman Wilson, a rookie with speed and promise, is positioned to learn behind DK Metcalf. At running back, the absence of Najee Harris confirms the transition to a new era with Warren as RB1.
On the defensive side, Nick Herbig backs up Watt - a signal that the team is preparing young talent to eventually take the reins. Cory Trice Jr. and Beanie Bishop Jr. also feature in the depth chart, potentially key rotational pieces in the secondary.
This early look at the Steelers’ structure confirms their “all-in” approach for 2025, anchored by star veterans and seasoned additions across the board. The T.J. Watt inclusion may ease some fan anxiety, but questions about his long-term future in Pittsburgh remain.
For now, though, the message is clear: the Steelers are locked in - and ready for battle.
