Steelers Community Mourns Beloved Writer Passed Away at 56, Who Spent More Than 30 Years Covering the Steelers
Dale Lolley, a respected journalist and cherished voice within the Pittsburgh Steelers community, has passed away at the age of 56 after a battle with cancer. Known for his deep love of family, music, and sports, Lolley left an indelible mark on Steelers Nation as both a storyteller and a trusted voice.
Lolley spent more than three decades covering the Steelers, writing thousands of stories and capturing the highs and lows of the franchise. “I’ve spent more than half of my life covering the team. If I’m not writing about them, I’m talking about them. It’s what I do,” Lolley once wrote. His passion for the game and for Steelers fans was unmatched, making him an integral part of the team’s media platforms.

His career began as a sportswriter in Oil City, Pennsylvania, before moving on to DK Pittsburgh Sports and later becoming a regular contributor to Steelers Digest. In 2014, he joined Steelers Nation Radio, pairing with Matt Williamson on the popular “SNR Drive with Dale & Matt.” By 2022, he had become a Contributing Writer and Editor for Steelers.com, covering everything from games and NFL events to exclusive interviews.
For Lolley, it was always about the fans. “We do this because Steelers Nation really is much more than a nation. It’s a worldwide phenomenon that only continues to grow with each passing day. We do it because of the passionate fanbase that is second to none,” he once wrote.
Survived by his wife Amy and children Noah, Tanner, and Madeline, Lolley leaves behind a legacy not only as a writer but as a beloved husband, father, and friend. His final words upon leaving DK Pittsburgh Sports ring true today: “It’s been a great run here, one I’ll always recall fondly. All things must pass. None of life’s strings can last. So, I must be on my way. And face another day.”
Steelers Nation has lost one of its most devoted voices, but Dale Lolley’s words and passion will live on forever.
