SAINTS’ YOUNG TALENT SHOWS PROMISE BUT DISAPPOINTING PERFORMANCE AGAINST RAMS FRUSTRATES FANS
New Orleans, November 6, 2025 – Following a 10-34 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Saints fans were left disheartened by another game marked by a lifeless offense, a fatigued defense, and growing frustration with the coaching staff. Yet, amid the chaos, a small glimmer of hope emerged from young players like rookie quarterback Tyler Shough, who continues to be seen as the franchise’s future.
A glimmer of hope in defeat
The blowout loss to the Rams exposed nearly every weakness the New Orleans Saints currently have. The team managed just 16 minutes of total possession, leaving little opportunity for the offense to find any rhythm. Despite that, rookie Tyler Shough showed composure and made several encouraging throws under heavy pressure.
Shough has played fewer than three quarters of NFL football, while Spencer Rattler already has 15 games under his belt, but the rookie’s calm presence stood out. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who has faced increasing criticism in recent weeks, defended his young quarterback:
“He’s inexperienced, yes, but the potential is obvious. Tyler’s calmness is exactly what I want in a future quarterback. We can trust him, and we’re going to keep giving him chances to grow.”
Even though the offense looked completely disconnected against the Rams, Shough’s performance suggested that patience and development could still pay off for New Orleans in the long run.
Kool-Aid McKinstry – promise fading fast
While Shough provided some optimism, second-year cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry continued to struggle. Once considered a breakout prospect, McKinstry has yet to adjust to the speed and complexity of the NFL.
Against the Rams, he was repeatedly targeted and burned by Puka Nacua, giving up multiple big plays and failing to stay consistent in coverage. Some Saints fans even labeled it his “worst game as a pro.”
Still, analysts believe McKinstry has time to turn things around if he can regain confidence and focus in the coming weeks.
Kellen Moore – the “offensive genius” under pressure
Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, once touted as an offensive mastermind, is facing mounting scrutiny. The Saints’ offense lacked rhythm, creativity, and balance throughout the game, managing only 16 minutes of possession and showing no signs of improvement.
Moore acknowledged the team’s struggles but remained calm, emphasizing that rebuilding takes time and faith in young players:
“We know it’s a rough stretch. But I believe in these young guys, especially Tyler Shough. He doesn’t fear pressure, he doesn’t quit, and that’s exactly the kind of leader we need right now.”
Sources within the team report that the coaching staff is considering schematic adjustments to better suit Shough’s skill set and help restore balance to an offense that’s looked out of sync for three straight weeks.
The future is there – but potential isn’t enough forever
The loss to the Rams proved that the Saints are at a crossroads. They have young talent, but inconsistency and lack of identity continue to haunt them. Shough’s maturity under pressure is encouraging, but players like McKinstry and Moore must step up quickly if the team hopes to regain the fans’ trust.
With only 16 minutes of ball control, the offense needs a complete reset – and that starts with giving players like Shough the time and structure to grow instead of letting them become victims of a struggling system.
