Rookie McMillan Confidently Affirms: A Little Personal Matter Can't Stop Me – Panthers Ready to Crush the Opponents!

Despite missing practice, Panthers rookie Tetairoa McMillan remains optimistic about his Week 4 availability, providing a timely boost to Carolina's injury-plagued offense.
If you're a Panthers fan searching for a ray of hope in a season that's already requiring a lot of patience, Tetairoa McMillan has been it. That's why Wednesday's news has been overly dramatized: McMillan didn't participate in practice.
At all. Not ideal at all – especially considering how much Carolina's passing offense is relying on this rookie wide receiver.
Let's be clear – McMillan has been the "hero" in the Panthers' receiving corps. Through the early part of the season, he's the only one to surpass the 100-yard receiving mark.
That stat alone shows the current situation. With Adam Thielen no longer here, Jalen Coker sidelined on the injured reserve (IR), Jimmy Horn Jr. still adapting to professional football, and Xavier Legette struggling with injuries and poor form, McMillan has become Bryce Young's top option.
Frankly speaking, he's the only stable presence in an ever-changing offense.
So, when McMillan didn't show up on the practice field on Wednesday, alarm bells ringing is understandable. Especially considering how fragile the situation around him has become.
Pushing Legette – who hasn't found rhythm or health yet – into the WR1 role would be a tough demand. And beyond Legette, there's no significant safety net.
Except for a few timely catches from veteran Hunter Renfrow, Young's targets have been largely inconsistent.
But here's the good news: McMillan himself isn't worried at all. He's even "pushing back" against the excessive concern from everyone.
"I feel fine," the rookie told reporters with a smile. "People are just overreacting about me missing one practice session. Why make such a fuss? It's no big deal, they're just being cautious. Yeah, I'm still very confident about playing [Sunday]. I just had a little personal matter to handle, that's all. I'm ready to fight!"
That kind of confidence – accompanied by laughter – has dispelled quite a bit of anxiety. McMillan made it clear that he's not dealing with any serious issue that could affect his playing status for Sunday's away game in New England. And while players aren't the ones making the final decision on clearance to play, his calm demeanor suggests this isn't a major internal concern.
That's hugely important, because Carolina's offense has already been stretched to the max. Last week, they had to adjust on the fly after losing both starting center Austin Corbett and guard Robert Hunt.
To be fair, the Panthers managed well around those absences. But asking Bryce Young to operate behind an injured offensive line and without his most reliable weapon?
That's a tough task, even against a Patriots team that's also at 1-2 and searching for answers.
Of course, this doesn't mean McMillan is guaranteed to suit up. We'll need to watch the rest of the practice week. But it's noteworthy that he played the full game last Sunday – and unlike tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, who left with a high ankle sprain and has already been ruled out, McMillan never had to leave the field due to injury.
So, while the headline might have caused initial panic, the reality looks much brighter. The Panthers are walking a tightrope offensively, no doubt. But if No. 18 is out there on Sunday, they'll at least have the guy who's been the heartbeat of their air attack.
