Rams Head Coach Sean McVay Congratulates Panthers QB on Record Breaking Feat: “We Truly Made a Mistake Underestimating Him”
The Los Angeles Rams did not just lose their six game winning streak last Sunday. They witnessed history being made right before their eyes by a quarterback they never saw coming.

Bryce Young, the second year signal caller for the Carolina Panthers, stunned the NFL world with a commanding performance, leading his team to a 31 to 28 upset victory over the red hot Rams at Bank of America Stadium. But this was not just about a big win. It was the day Bryce Young shattered Josh Allen’s NFL record.
Young Becomes the Youngest QB in NFL History to Reach 11 Game Winning Drives
In a matchup where the Panthers entered as underdogs by 8.5 to 10 points, Bryce Young delivered a masterclass. He completed 15 of 20 passes for 206 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, earning a stellar 147.1 passer rating. He also rushed for 23 yards.
His heroics included two critical fourth down touchdowns. A 33 yard strike to Jalen Coker, and a perfectly placed 43 yard bomb to rookie Tetairoa McMillan with just over six minutes remaining. That final touchdown capped a 6 play, 65 yard drive that secured the win.
The score also marked Young’s 11th career game winning drive, making him the youngest player in NFL history to reach that milestone at just 24 years and 128 days old. This surpassed the previous mark held by Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen at 24 years and 164 days.
“He really made us pay for underestimating him. I do not say this lightly. Bryce Young was the difference, and we truly made a mistake thinking he was not ready for this stage,” Rams head coach Sean McVay admitted after the game, visibly impressed and humbled.
Panthers Surge Toward Playoffs for the First Time Since 2017
The victory lifts the Panthers to a 7 to 6 record, just half a game behind the Buccaneers for first place in the NFC South. This is their strongest playoff outlook since 2017.
Bryce Young has now thrown for 2,337 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions in 12 games this season, surpassing his previous single season best of 15 touchdown passes.
The Panthers backfield also played a crucial role. Chuba Hubbard rushed for 83 yards on 17 carries and added a 35 yard touchdown reception. Rico Dowdle contributed 58 rushing yards on 18 carries.
Carolina’s defense forced three turnovers from Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who had thrown 28 straight touchdown passes without an interception since Week 3. Safety Nick Scott intercepted a tipped pass in the end zone. Mike Jackson returned another interception 48 yards for a touchdown. Derrick Brown sealed the game by stripping Stafford on the Rams final drive with 2 minutes and 25 seconds remaining.
“I thought we were ready,” McVay added. “Then Bryce Young showed up and reminded us that football is not just about numbers. It is about composure, heart, and making the biggest play when the moment is at its peak.”
