Kirk, 31, was killed while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Authorities identified the suspected shooter as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who was taken into custody more than 24 hours later and is currently being held at Utah County Jail.
Robinson has since been charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and committing a violent offense in the presence of a child. Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray announced that prosecutors will seek the death penalty, describing Kirk’s death as “an American tragedy.”

In addition to the Arizona memorial, the Philadelphia Eagles have announced they will hold their own tribute to honor Kirk’s life before kickoff of their Week 3 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams at Lincoln Financial Field. The team confirmed a pregame moment of silence will take place, ensuring Kirk’s legacy will be remembered not only nationally but also within the Eagles community.
