Panthers Quietly Launch a Sportsmanship Education Campaign After Tre’von Moehrig’s Controversial “Low Blow”
🎯 When Moehrig hit below the belt, the Panthers answered with cleats and compassion.
The NFL field is still buzzing after the shocking incident in Week 12 when Panthers defensive back Tre’von Moehrig delivered a clear low blow to 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings. The unsportsmanlike act sparked outrage across the league, raising one big question: Is sportsmanship still alive in pro football?
But instead of hiding from the controversy, the Carolina Panthers’ offensive linemen are choosing to respond with something unexpected: kindness, gratitude, and education.
As part of the NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats” campaign in Week 13, Carolina is sending a powerful message. Football isn’t just about winning. It’s about who you are when the whistle blows.

👟 These cleats were made for more than playing
Austin Corbett is honoring All Within My Hands, the charitable foundation of the heavy metal band Metallica, which supports vocational education and food security. These causes deeply resonate with his own family’s hardships during the 2008 recession.
Taylor Moton is repping Classroom Central, a Charlotte-based nonprofit that provides school supplies to teachers and students. Raised by a mother who is a professor at Michigan State, Moton recalled, “If my grades weren’t right, sports didn’t matter.”
Ickey Ekwonu, a Charlotte native, turned to Carolina Youth Coalition and partnered with Honeywell to run an AI-inspired cleats design contest among local students. The winning designs will appear on Ekwonu’s cleats in Week 13 and the winners will be in the stands to watch him play.
🗣️ Chairman David Tepper: “We’re building a culture”
While the Moehrig incident grabbed national headlines, Panthers owner David Tepper chose to spotlight the team’s values instead:
"We’re not just building a football team. We’re building a culture. And that culture starts with knowing what you stand for, whether it’s in a block or on your cleats."
David Tepper, Owner of the Carolina Panthers
This wasn’t just a soundbite. It was a mission statement.
🔥 From a dirty hit to cleats that hit deeper
The Carolina Panthers didn’t deny what happened. They transformed the moment into a statement of purpose, turning one man’s mistake into a movement that uplifts many.
“You’re crazy to turn your back on hunger,” Corbett said, reflecting on his childhood and why he supports food security.
“I want to make my grandfather proud,” Moton shared, explaining how family and legacy drive him every Sunday.
“I believe AI, taught the right way, can transform communities,” Ekwonu added, emphasizing the future starts with informed kids.
📣 The NFL doesn’t need another dirty hit. It needs more cleats like these
Tre’von Moehrig may have made headlines for the wrong reasons.
But the Panthers are making a legacy for the right ones.
This Sunday, their cleats will do the talking.
