PACKERS FAN ARRESTED IN GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN AFTER ARMED THREAT AGAINST EAGLES FANS BEFORE KICKOFF

Green Bay, Wisconsin – November 9, 2025
A Green Bay Packers fan was arrested just moments before kickoff at Lambeau Field after allegedly making armed threats toward Philadelphia Eagles supporters in the tailgating area.
According to the Green Bay Police Department, the suspect was identified as Ryan Cole Matthews, 34, of Ashwaubenon, a town just south of Green Bay.
The confrontation occurred around 10:15 a.m. in Lot C, where hundreds of fans had gathered for pregame celebrations ahead of the Week 10 matchup between the Packers and Eagles.
Witnesses said Matthews, wearing Packers gear, became increasingly aggressive during a heated argument with a group of Eagles fans over the teams’ Super Bowl records.
The situation escalated when he pulled out a 9mm handgun from his vehicle and shouted threats, sending the crowd into panic.
Lambeau Field security personnel quickly intervened, detaining the suspect before police arrived.
Officers recovered a loaded 9mm pistol and two spare magazines from Matthews’ car.
No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.
The tailgating area was temporarily locked down for 25 minutes as police reviewed surveillance footage and interviewed witnesses.
Following the incident, security measures at Lambeau Field were heightened, including metal detector scans, stricter bag checks, and additional plainclothes officers stationed throughout the venue.
A spokesperson for the Green Bay Police Department said:
“This could have turned dangerous very quickly.
Thanks to fast and coordinated action, our team ensured the safety of everyone attending today’s game.”
Despite the brief scare, the Packers vs. Eagles matchup proceeded on schedule without delay.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing intensity of NFL fan rivalries, where passion can quickly turn into danger when emotions run too high.
