OFFICIAL: The NFL has issued a fine to the Panthers' star following their Week 9 victory over the Packers.

The Carolina Panthers pulled off a shocking 16 13 victory over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, and at the heart of it all was Rico Dowdle, the breakout star who scored both of Carolina’s touchdowns with a dominant performance. But when the lights dimmed, Dowdle became the center of attention for a very different reason: an over the top celebration.

The “Double Hip Thrust” That Made Everyone Laugh

Moments after scoring, Dowdle performed a double hip thrust, mimicking the legendary comedy sketch from “Key & Peele.” What was meant as a lighthearted moment quickly drew a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct, costing Carolina 15 yards on the ensuing kickoff.

Still, on the field, he was unstoppable with 25 carries, 130 yards, and both touchdowns for the Panthers, including a crucial 19 yard run that set up kicker Ryan Fitzgerald’s game winning 49 yard field goal as time expired.

A Breakout Performance for Dowdle

Dowdle is rapidly crafting his own story in Carolina. Once seen as a secondary option, he’s now emerging as the team’s offensive centerpiece. Through nine games, he’s recorded 735 rushing yards, four touchdowns, and an impressive 5.6 yards per carry, production that’s hard to ignore.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales praised Dowdle’s performance after the game but also offered a dose of perspective:

“Rico had a phenomenal game. He brought energy, spirit, and explosiveness to our offense; every run he made lifted the entire sideline. I’m incredibly proud of how he fought until the very end. However, I also told the guys we have to learn how to control our emotions. Win or lose, the only thing you can do is go back, review the tape, take accountability, and make adjustments. We need to have the mental toughness to become the team we want to be, not just in skill, but in focus, discipline, and how we respond when things don’t go our way. You can’t change the outcome, but you can change how you fight for the next one.”

Then Came the NFL’s Punishment

The joy didn’t last long. According to ESPN, the NFL officially fined Dowdle $14,491 for “excessive celebration.” His agent, David Canter, confirmed the penalty and said they plan to appeal the decision.

Dowdle himself took it in stride, joking on social media that he might start a GoFundMe to “help pay the fine.”

A Divided Reaction

Fans quickly split into two camps: some argued the NFL was being too strict, while others said rules are rules. Either way, one thing is clear, Rico Dowdle has become one of the hottest names of Week 9, both for his play and his personality.
