Day 7 of the Steelers' 2025 Training Camp turned into a battlefield.
Tensions flared under the scorching heat of Latrobe, with not one, not two, but three separate altercations breaking out during practice — and Head Coach Mike Tomlin never stepped in, choosing instead to let the players sort it out themselves.
First came the fiery exchange between veteran WR Robert Woods and third-year CB Joey Porter Jr. After a few shoves, Woods reportedly threw a punch directly at Porter’s face, shouting, “I’ve been in this league eight years longer than you!” before teammates rushed in to deescalate.
Then, two of the Steelers’ high-profile newcomers — DK Metcalf and safety Chuck Clark — went at it. According to on-site reporters, Metcalf was visibly angry after a rep. Clark didn’t hold back either, throwing punches and adding to what one insider called “a very chippy day in Latrobe.”
Finally, tempers reached a boiling point between Jonnu Smith and safety Juan Thornhill. It began as trash talk during a 1-on-1 rep, escalated when Smith threw the football at Thornhill, and ended with Smith allegedly landing a punch to Thornhill’s face.
Teammates had to break them up twice as the two continued jawing over by the water cooler. Thornhill’s response? “I ain’t no puppy.”
While some fans praised the intensity, others expressed concern over lack of discipline. But as clips circulated online, many noticed Coach Tomlin standing nearby — arms folded, expression unreadable — making no effort to intervene.
Whether this was classic Steelers toughness or a sign of brewing chaos remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure: Training Camp Day 7 just set the tone for a wild preseason.
