Mike Tomlin Likely to Cut Super Bowl-Winning WR After Training Camp Ends

Scotty Miller's time in Pittsburgh has been anything but stable — and Training Camp 2025 might be his last shot to stick around.

The 27-year-old wide receiver bounced on and off the Steelers’ roster in 2024, even earning a start before being cut and re-signed late in the season. Once viewed as a rising deep threat during his 2020 stint with Tom Brady in Tampa, Miller has struggled to recapture that spark in recent years.

Now, with Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson taking commanding steps forward, Miller finds himself buried on the depth chart. Both young receivers were drafted with clear intent, and Pittsburgh’s coaching staff appears committed to their development.

Worse for Miller, he doesn’t bring standout value on special teams — something that fringe WRs typically need to secure a spot. Players like Ben Skowronek are already ahead of him in that category, while undrafted rookies Roc Taylor and Ke'Shawn Williams are making strong cases for a final WR6 slot.

“We gave Scotty opportunities last year, and quite frankly, the production wasn’t there,” Tomlin said bluntly.
“This camp? Still not seeing the urgency or execution we need.”

The presence of Aaron Rodgers offers a glimmer of hope — perhaps a last chance for Miller to rediscover some of that 2020 rhythm. But even that feels like a longshot.

Unless he makes an undeniable impact in the next two weeks, Scotty Miller could be heading back to free agency once again — this time, for good.
