George Pickens – The NFC East’s Newest Nightmare

The Dallas Cowboys may have just tilted the balance of power in the NFC East by acquiring wide receiver George Pickens. Known for his aggressive style and acrobatic catches, Pickens brings a level of explosiveness the Cowboys’ offense has been lacking opposite CeeDee Lamb.
A former second-round pick by the Steelers, Pickens averaged over 15 yards per catch in 2024 and ranked top-five in contested catches. His physicality at the line of scrimmage gives Dallas a true deep threat, capable of beating single coverage and opening up the field for Lamb and tight end Jake Ferguson. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has already begun designing plays to maximize Pickens’ unique skill set, including motion isolations and sideline fades.
Pickens has been making noise early in training camp. “He’s a problem,” one NFC scout told BTB. “He creates separation before the snap even finishes.” Even Dak Prescott has noticed: “He makes throws look better than they are,” the quarterback joked after Monday’s practice. Meanwhile, Cowboys defenders say he’s made them “level up” just trying to keep up.
Financially, the Cowboys still have Pickens on a rookie deal, making his value-per-dollar one of the highest in the league. His presence allows the team flexibility with long-term contract talks for Dak and Parsons, while simultaneously strengthening their Super Bowl push in 2025.
If Pickens delivers what fans and coaches already expect, every defensive coordinator in the NFC East will have one more sleepless night this season. The Cowboys didn’t just add a receiver—they may have added the edge they’ve been missing.
