Furious Head Coach Nick Sirianni Cuts Promising WR Midway Through Eagles Training Camp

The pads were barely on, and yet one wide receiver's time in Philadelphia has already come to an end—because of more than just a finger injury.

According to team sources, coaches were left “deeply frustrated” when a young wideout ignored position coach instructions during individual drills and suffered a hand injury in the process. It wasn’t the injury that broke the trust—it was how it happened.

After missing back-to-back days of camp, the message came loud and clear. The team moved swiftly, waiving the player with an injury designation and bringing in a new face. Just like that, a roster opportunity vanished before August even began.

Danny Gray signed late last year to the Eagles’ practice squad, Gray had a real shot this summer to compete for one of the final WR spots. Coaches liked his speed, and he’d shown flashes in OTAs. But those flashes quickly faded when discipline gave way to freelancing.

Head coach Nick Sirianni didn’t hold back when asked about the decision.

“I expected a lot from him,” Sirianni said. “But what he gave us in return was disappointment. We have a standard here — and when you go off-script, don’t follow guidance, and get hurt doing it… that’s not just careless. That’s unacceptable.”

The Eagles are known for demanding accountability, especially from fringe players looking to make the 53-man roster. In Gray’s case, the gap between potential and professionalism proved too wide to overlook.

Now, Ife Adeyi steps in with a chance to show he can do what Gray couldn’t: listen, learn, and earn a jersey.

As for Gray, he’ll have to wait for another shot—somewhere else. Because in Philly, every rep counts. And every misstep does, too.
