Former Eagles Veteran Arrested Hours After Release Amid Charges of Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct
The Philadelphia Eagles’ roster moves on Monday took an unexpected off field turn only hours later when a veteran player was arrested in South Philadelphia on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
According to multiple local reports, the incident occurred shortly after the player learned he had been released earlier in the afternoon. Witnesses described him as visibly upset and under the influence near a busy restaurant district downtown. Police were contacted after bystanders reported an altercation that escalated rapidly.

Officers arrived at approximately 9:30 p.m., where the player reportedly resisted being detained and continued shouting at the scene. Authorities confirmed that no one was seriously injured, though several charges were filed.
The player was identified as Sua Opeta, a veteran lineman who spent several seasons with Philadelphia, appearing in 38 career games and making 10 starts. Just hours before the arrest, the Eagles released Opeta to create space for wide receiver Danny Gray on the practice squad.

Those familiar with Opeta expressed shock at the news. Known for his quiet professionalism and work ethic, teammates voiced sadness and concern for his well being following the arrest.
The Eagles later issued a statement through head coach Nick Sirianni, emphasizing compassion and support. Sirianni noted that the organization immediately reached out to Opeta after learning of the situation, stressing that the team stands with its players during difficult moments.
Nick Sirianni later said:
“It is heartbreaking. He has always been respected here, tough, reliable and team first. When we heard the news, we immediately reached out to provide legal and emotional support. We are not here to judge him. We are here to help him find his way back. Once an Eagle, always part of our family.”
Opeta, age 28, was booked overnight and released on bail Tuesday morning. The incident remains under investigation, with a court appearance scheduled later this month.
