Falcons Hit with Major Injury Concerns Ahead of Panthers Clash

The Atlanta Falcons are heading into their Week 3 matchup against the Carolina Panthers with more than just game planning on their minds—the injury report is stacking up with some key names, and Thursday’s update brought a mix of good news, lingering questions, and a few new concerns.
Let’s start with the headline: A.J. Terrell Jr. remains the biggest question mark.
The standout cornerback has now missed back-to-back practices with a hamstring issue, and that’s not an ideal sign heading into Sunday. Terrell’s impact on this Falcons defense can’t be overstated—in two games this season, he’s allowed just five receptions for 42 yards while lining up against elite receivers like Mike Evans and Justin Jefferson.
That level of lockdown coverage is rare, and if he can’t go, the secondary will face a serious challenge, regardless of who lines up across from them.
The Falcons also held out rookie edge rusher James Pearce Jr. for a second straight day, though he was upgraded to limited participation Thursday after a DNP (Did Not Practice) on Wednesday due to a groin injury. Pearce’s burst off the edge has been an early bright spot, and Atlanta would love to have his energy on the field.
Tight end Charlie Woerner, dealing with an ankle injury, was absent for the second consecutive day. His availability for Sunday looks increasingly uncertain. Meanwhile, linebacker Kaden Elliss, who was limited on Wednesday with a neck issue, was a full go Thursday—a positive development for a defense that relies on his versatility and leadership in the middle of the field.
On offense, wide receiver Darnell Mooney appears to be trending in the right direction. After being limited Wednesday with a shoulder injury, Mooney was a full participant Thursday. He made his season debut last week and could be a valuable weapon if fully healthy against Carolina.
Rookie safety DeMarcco Hellams, also recovering from a hamstring injury, remained limited. And Jamal Agnew, who missed Sunday’s game with a groin issue, did not participate again Thursday.
There were a few more updates that Falcons fans will want to keep an eye on. Rookie offensive lineman Jack Nelson was upgraded to full participation after being limited Wednesday—a good sign for a unit that needs all the depth it can get. Wide receiver Casey Washington stayed limited but hasn’t suffered any setbacks, suggesting he’s still in the mix for Sunday.
New additions to the injury report included tight end Kyle Pitts Sr., listed as limited with a toe injury. Pitts has been a key part of the passing game, and any limitation, even mid-week, is worth monitoring. Cornerback Mike Ford Jr. (groin) and running back Nathan Carter (personal reasons) were both DNPs on Thursday, marking their first appearances on the report this week.
With just one more practice before game day, all eyes will be on Friday’s report to see who’s trending toward suiting up. The Falcons have a chance to build momentum after a promising start to the season, but they’ll need some of these key pieces healthy to do it.
