The Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 8 victory over the New York Giants came with a bittersweet twist, as star running back Saquon Barkley left the game in the third quarter with an apparent leg injury after one of his best performances of the season.
Before the injury, Barkley was unstoppable — racking up 150 rushing yards on just 14 carries, averaging a remarkable 10.7 yards per attempt, and breaking free for a 65-yard touchdown on the opening drive. His power, burst, and vision set the tone early, helping the Eagles control the game from the first snap.

However, midway through the third quarter, Barkley went down clutching his leg after a 28-yard run. He limped off the field and was seen heading into the medical tent before returning to the sideline with his helmet off. The team later listed him as questionable to return with a groin injury.
Despite the setback, Barkley’s day was a reminder of the elite form that made him one of the most dynamic backs in the NFL. He had yet to reach 100 yards in any game this season before today, but his breakout against his former team couldn’t have come at a better time for Philadelphia.
The Eagles will have a bye in Week 9, giving Barkley two weeks to recover before their next matchup at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers in Week 10.
Head coach Nick Sirianni praised Barkley’s impact after the game:
“He ran with everything he had today — speed, strength, heart. You could feel the energy he brought to the whole offense. We’ll be smart with him, but there’s no question what he means to this team.”
For now, the Eagles’ fanbase can only hope the injury is minor. Barkley reminded everyone on Sunday just how dangerous he can be — and how much this offense thrives when he’s at full strength.
