Eagles Make NFL History: Blocked Field Goals 50 Years Apart Lead to Epic Comeback Win

Jordan Davis’ last-second block wasn’t just a game-winner — it was a perfect repeat of history, exactly 50 years to the day.

The Philadelphia Eagles pulled off a historic 33-26 comeback victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, and the finish will be remembered for decades.

With just seconds left, rookie kicker Joshua Karty lined up for a 44-yard field goal to tie the game. Instead, Jordan Davis powered through, blocked the kick, scooped up the football, and rumbled 61 yards for the game-clinching touchdown.

The moment wasn’t only dramatic — it was historic. According to NBC Sports’ Dave Zangaro, the last time the Eagles blocked two field goals in a game happened exactly 50 years earlier on September 21, 1975, when Bill Bergey rejected two attempts against the New York Giants.

Half a century later, history repeated itself. Jalen Carter blocked a field goal earlier in the game, and Davis sealed the win with one of the most iconic plays of the NFL season so far.

The Rams once led 26-7, but Jalen Hurts threw three second-half touchdowns to spark the comeback, while the defense shut Los Angeles down completely.

After the game, head coach Nick Sirianni praised his defensive front:

“Carter and Davis prepared all week for this. When the moment came, they executed perfectly.”

Star wideout A.J. Brown also issued a message for the offense after recording 109 yards and his first touchdown of the season:

“Let your killers do their thing, and play fast and aggressive.”

With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-0, keeping their unbeaten streak alive as they head into a Week 4 showdown with the also-undefeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

VIDEO - Broncos Fans Blast Refs for Picking Up Flag After Clear Contact from Eagles CB Kelee Ringo
The Week 5 matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos turned heated after a controversial officiating moment sparked outrage among Broncos fans. In the second quarter, Eagles cornerback Kelee Ringo appeared to make heavy contact with Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. while quarterback Bo Nix attempted a sideline throw. Officials initially threw a flag for pass interference — only to pick it up moments later, declaring no foul on the play. The reversal immediately set off a storm online. The Broncos sideline was visibly frustrated, while fans and analysts accused referees of favoring Philadelphia throughout the game. The clip, shared by multiple sports accounts, quickly went viral as fans flooded social media with complaints about the league’s inconsistency. “That was clear contact before the ball arrived — if that’s not PI, what is?” one Broncos fan posted. Others suggested the referees were “protecting” the Eagles after several earlier questionable calls went their way. Despite the controversy, the Eagles’ defense held strong, continuing their streak of physical coverage plays that have defined their secondary all season. But for Broncos fans, this moment will likely fuel more debates about the fairness of officiating in Philadelphia games.
