The Philadelphia Eagles moved to 3-0 on the 2025 season after a gritty 33-26 win over the Los Angeles Rams, but defensive tackle Jalen Carter once again made headlines for the wrong reasons. Carter, who was a first-team All-Pro just a season ago, has struggled to stay out of disciplinary trouble this year.
In Week 3 against the Rams, Carter blocked a crucial field goal attempt late in the fourth quarter, giving the Eagles possession. However, instead of keeping the momentum on Philadelphia’s side, he turned to Rams players and gestured in celebration, drawing a taunting penalty that set the Eagles back deep in their own territory. It was the second time in three weeks Carter had been disciplined for unsportsmanlike conduct.
On Saturday, the NFL announced that Carter had been fined $11,593 for the taunting call. It marked another blow to the young lineman’s season, which has already been overshadowed by fines and suspensions.
Earlier in Week 1, Carter was ejected after spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, an incident that resulted in a massive fine of over $57,000. Combined with his latest penalty, Carter’s total fines for the season have now ballooned to nearly $69,000 — one of the highest figures in the league this year.
For the Eagles, Carter’s talent is undeniable. His ability to collapse the pocket and disrupt plays remains a key part of Philadelphia’s defensive identity. But his lack of discipline is becoming a growing concern for the coaching staff, especially in a season where the team has Super Bowl aspirations.
The Eagles have not issued a public statement on whether additional internal discipline will follow, but the league’s stance is clear: repeated unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated. For Carter, the message is simple — if he wants to continue being a cornerstone for the Eagles, he must find a way to balance passion with professionalism.
