The incident occurred after Carter blocked a late Rams field goal attempt, a play that could have sealed momentum for Philadelphia. But instead of celebrating with teammates, Carter gestured toward Rams players, drawing a taunting flag that pushed the Eagles’ offense deep into their own territory. The fine from the league came swiftly, marking the second time in just three weeks Carter has been hit with financial punishment.
For Carter, the issue isn’t just the money – it’s the perception. He was ejected in Week 1 against the Cowboys for spitting on Dak Prescott, an act that cost him over $57,000. Now, with his season fines nearing $69,000, Carter insists he is being targeted unfairly by officials and league discipline. “I play with passion, and sometimes it gets mistaken for disrespect. What I did against the Rams was no different than what other players do every Sunday. Yet somehow, I’m the one who keeps getting fined,” Carter said in his appeal.
The Eagles have not publicly commented on the matter, but head coach Nick Sirianni has previously emphasized accountability while also defending his players’ competitiveness. Carter’s appeal will go through the NFL’s standard review process, though overturning or reducing fines is historically rare.
Still, the young All-Pro is standing his ground. At just 23 years old, Carter is already one of the most disruptive defensive linemen in football, but his growing list of penalties has begun to overshadow his play. By challenging the NFL’s latest decision, he hopes to reset the narrative - from “repeat offender” to misunderstood competitor.
