Eagles DC Vic Fangio Admits Secondary Struggles, Hints at Possible Trade Moves Before Deadline

The Philadelphia Eagles’ defense has struggled to find its Super Bowl-winning form this season. While veteran coordinator Vic Fangio remains in charge, his unit hasn’t looked as sharp — and early-season frustrations have started to build within the fanbase.
The defensive line received a morale boost with Brandon Graham’s return from retirement, but issues in the secondary continue to raise concerns. The No. 2 cornerback position remains a glaring question mark, as Kelee Ringo has yet to show the consistency the coaching staff hoped for. Despite his struggles, Fangio continues to give the young CB opportunities to prove himself.
Speaking to the media ahead of Week 8, Fangio addressed Ringo’s performance with a mix of honesty and cautious optimism:
“Some of the completions he gave up have come on tough routes,” Fangio told reporters. “I still think he can be better than he has been. Opportunities will keep coming, and hopefully he can turn the corner.”
Those comments reveal just how tight Fangio’s situation is — and why the Eagles’ defensive needs at the trade deadline are more urgent than ever.
After ending their losing streak with a convincing win over the Vikings, the Eagles looked more confident, but Fangio knows the real test lies ahead. Their upcoming matchup with the New York Giants, who recently dropped 32 points on the Broncos’ defense, will test whether the improvements are real or temporary.
General manager Howie Roseman has a reputation for making bold midseason moves, and the current state of the secondary might demand another one. With Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell performing well as starters, the rotation behind them has been shaky. Neither Ringo nor Adoree’ Jackson has offered the stability Philadelphia needs in coverage.
Names like Tariq Woolen (Seahawks), Michael Carter II (Jets), Cam Taylor-Britt (Bengals), and Rasul Douglas (Packers) have been floated as possible trade targets. Sources inside the organization say the Eagles are monitoring several of these situations closely but haven’t made an official move yet.
For now, Fangio’s best option is to keep developing Ringo — hoping his raw athleticism can evolve into reliability before the playoff push begins.
The reality is clear: the Eagles don’t just need effort — they need reinforcements. And if Fangio’s tone is any indication, Philadelphia’s secondary could soon be seeing new faces before the trade deadline hits.
