Eagles Cut Rookie Sixth-Round Pick Despite Preseason Flashes

Philadelphia’s quarterback room just got smaller. Following weeks of evaluation in Training Camp and two preseason outings, the Eagles have made a tough roster decision, moving on from a rookie signal-caller drafted earlier this year.
The move was expected by some observers, given the struggles under center during the preseason. Across multiple appearances, the young QB completed less than 50% of his passes, while tossing more interceptions than coaches would have liked. Despite showing flashes of arm strength, consistency and execution simply weren’t there.
Philadelphia’s coaching staff has been clear: performance and growth matter more than draft status. That message rang loud as the team cut ties with its sixth-round draft pick, Kyle McCord, after just two preseason games.
McCord, 22, went 24-of-56 for 191 passing yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions, finishing with a 42.9% completion rate. The Eagles believe he could still be a practice squad candidate if he clears waivers, but for now, his time on the 53-man roster has ended.
The Eagles will now move forward with their remaining quarterback depth as the regular season approaches. For McCord, the next step is uncertain, but at just 22 years old, there’s still room to grow and refine his game—whether in Philadelphia’s system or elsewhere.
