Jerry Jones Once Again Puts the Spotlight
If you thought this week might be quieter for the Dallas Cowboys, think again. Jones has stirred the pot yet again, and fans are less than thrilled.
In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Jones openly admitted, “There’s $100 billion present value with gas out there. That’s why I’m talking to you on the telephone rather than trying to fix our defense with the Dallas Cowboys.”
That blunt admission—placing a huge natural-gas deal above his football duties—sent shockwaves through the Cowboys’ fanbase and locker room.

Damage control underway
Recognizing the backlash, Jones attempted to clarify his position during a radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
“Every day, every time I can, I’m looking for ways to give advantages to the Dallas Cowboys,” Jones stated. “Anybody that says I don’t focus on the Cowboys is just living in the moment of frustration, and I get that. And I’m frustrated too.”
He followed that up by saying: “You know where I ought to be. What did we spend, 15 minutes away from trying to help that defense?”
That “15 minutes” reference concerns the call Jones made instead of working on the team’s defense — raising more questions than it answered.
Why it matters
At a time when Dallas’ defense is among the weakest in the league, comments from the team's owner suggesting his focus lies elsewhere provide fuel for critics.
For a franchise that prides itself on the “Star” and a rich history, this episode highlights the disconnect between the front office message and the field performance.
The takeaway
Jones may believe he has made a savvy business move. But for many Cowboys faithful, the message is loud and clear: the team they love is playing second fiddle — to natural-gas profits.
Whether this will impact the locker room more deeply remains to be seen, but the optics are undeniably bad.
