Cowboys Release Veteran Offensive Tackle Just Three Weeks After Signing Him
The Dallas Cowboys are making roster cuts ahead of the league’s Tuesday deadline, trimming their 90-man roster down to 53. And one of the first moves has caught fans by surprise.
Despite bringing in veteran help earlier this month to stabilize a battered offensive line, the Cowboys have decided to part ways with a player who was expected to provide depth and leadership in the trenches. The move comes as Dallas continues to evaluate its younger talent while reshaping the line ahead of Week 1.

Reports indicate the team informed the veteran over the weekend that he would not be making the roster. The decision comes just three weeks after he signed his deal, raising eyebrows about the team’s shifting priorities and his current ability to contribute.
During his short stint back in Oxnard, he impressed coaches with his conditioning and even mentored younger linemen. Still, the Cowboys ultimately chose to go in another direction, leaning on emerging players like Tyler Guyton, Terence Steele, and Hakeem Adeniji to carry the load into the regular season.
That veteran is La’el Collins, who played 71 games for the Cowboys from 2015 to 2021 before spending time with the Bengals and Bills. The 32-year-old rejoined Dallas on a one-year deal earlier this month, but his return has been cut short before even suiting up in a preseason game.
For Collins, it marks another tough chapter in a career filled with both highs and setbacks. A reliable starter during his prime years in Dallas, he was expected to compete for depth and bring veteran stability. Instead, his second stint with the franchise ends almost as quickly as it began.
Collins will now be free to sign with any team once the release becomes official, while the Cowboys move forward with a younger, reshaped offensive line heading into 2025.
