Buffalo Bills announce WR Khalil Shakir as their 2025 Salute to Service Award nominee
The NFL and USAA, an official NFL Salute to Service partner, announced this year's nominees for the Salute to Service Award presented by USAA.

Each year, the Salute to Service Award recognizes NFL players, coaches, staff and alumni who make exceptional efforts to honor and support military and veteran communities. The Buffalo Bills are proud to announce WR Khalil Shakir as their 2025 Salute to Service Award nominee.

Shakir enters Week 9 as the Bills leading receiver in yards and is tied for the team lead in touchdowns. This is Shakir's fourth season in the NFL and his first as the Salute to Service Award nominee. The Bills receiver comes from a military family, with his father, Attiyah Shakir, serving 24 years in the Marines.

Fans have an opportunity to determine the award's three finalists by voting for their favorite nominee. One vote per day for each nominee is permitted. The three finalists will be announced in January, and the recipient will be recognized at NFL Honors; a primetime awards special to air nationally during the week of Super Bowl LX.

To learn more about each nominee and cast your vote for Khalil Shakir, visit NFL.com/SaluteFanVote -- voting is open now until November 30.
For the past 15 seasons, the Salute to Service Award has been an integral part of the NFL's and USAA's year-round commitment to recognize the military and veteran community. As the presenting sponsor of the award, USAA, a leading provider of insurance, banking and financial services to U.S. military members, veterans and their families, will contribute $25,000 in the recipient's name to official aid societies representing all U.S. military branches.
The NFL Foundation will match USAA's contribution by donating an additional $25,000 to the awardee's military non-profit charity of choice. Through the league's Salute to Service initiative, the NFL and all teams from across the league unite to honor, empower and connect with service members, veterans and their families during Weeks 9-11 of the regular season.

The initiative will come to life in NFL stadiums across the country through on-field branding and other game day activations. The Bills' Salute to Service game is slated for Nov. 2 when we take on the Chiefs at Highmark Stadium. Visit NFL.com/Salute to learn more.

Steelers Sign Eagles Veteran OL and Two Players to Bolster Team Depth
The Pittsburgh Steelers are retooling their roster following back-to-back losses, announcing the additions of offensive lineman Jack Driscoll, safety Darrick Forrest, and wide receiver John Rhys Plumlee to the practice squad on Tuesday. We have signed OL Jack Driscoll, S Darrick Forrest, and WR John Rhys Plumlee to the practice squad. @BordasLawhttps://t.co/04dJyTzhkD — Pittsburgh Steelers (@steelers) October 29, 2025 Driscoll, a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, brings five seasons of NFL experience to Pittsburgh. He appeared in 67 games and made 18 starts with the Eagles, proving himself as a versatile blocker capable of playing both tackle and guard. A former standout at Auburn University, Driscoll also spent two seasons at Massachusetts before transferring, starting a combined 47 college games. Forrest, originally drafted by the Washington Commanders in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft (163rd overall), offers valuable experience in the secondary. Over four seasons in Washington, he appeared in 40 games with 17 starts, recording 126 total tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles. Forrest also contributed on special teams and briefly spent time with the Indianapolis Colts earlier this year. Before the NFL, he starred at the University of Cincinnati, where he tallied 165 tackles and four and a half tackles for loss. Meanwhile, Plumlee reunites with the Steelers after initially signing as an undrafted free agent in 2024. The former UCF quarterback and wide receiver spent time with both the Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars before returning to Pittsburgh. Across his college career, Plumlee played in 52 games, throwing for 5,838 yards and 34 touchdowns, while adding 296 receiving yards as a hybrid playmaker. To make room for the new additions, the Steelers released running back Raheem Blackshear and linebacker Jacoby Windmon from the practice squad. Pittsburgh’s moves reflect a continued emphasis on depth and flexibility as they aim to rebound in the second half of the season.
