Bills Release Linebacker Jimmy Ciarlo After Just One Game
Following a disappointing prime-time loss to the Atlanta Falcons, the Buffalo Bills have started making defensive adjustments after dropping their second straight game — and their hold on the AFC East lead.

The team officially announced the release of linebacker Jimmy Ciarlo, who played in just one game for Buffalo. Ciarlo, an undrafted rookie out of Army who initially signed with the New York Jets before joining Buffalo in August, had been re-signed to the active roster earlier this month after being cut during final roster reductions.
“We have made the following roster moves:
– Released LB Jimmy Ciarlo
– Released CB Jalen Kimber from the practice squad.”
Ciarlo’s only appearance came in the Week 6 loss to the Patriots, where he logged 13 snaps on special teams (52% of total) but none on defense.
His release comes just ahead of Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi returning from suspension, both expected to bolster a defensive line that ranks 12th overall but only 25th in ESPN’s Pass Rush Win Rate. Meanwhile, Bijan Robinson’s 170-yard rushing performance highlighted Buffalo’s ongoing struggles against the run — ranking just 17th league-wide.
The Bills’ defense remains short-handed at linebacker, with Terrel Bernard now joining Matt Milano on the injury list after sustaining an ankle injury against Atlanta.
As Buffalo heads into its Week 7 bye, the focus turns to regrouping, regaining momentum, and tightening up defensively before a critical matchup at the Carolina Panthers in Week 8.
